Character Name: Rapunzel
Series: Tangled
Timeline: After finally entering the castle town to see the lights
Canon Resource Link: Tangled
Character Background: It all started with a magic, golden flower. This flower was the only thing in the world that had the ability to heal any wound, and could even restore youth to the old. The key was to sing a certain song to it in order to activate those powers. Rapunzel's mother, the Queen of the land, was very sick when she was pregnant with her daughter. Desperate to save his wife and baby, the King sent his men on a frantic search for the healing flower. When they finally found it, they used it in a potion to cure the Queen's sickness. Miraculously, it worked.
However, the flower's magical properties were then transferred into their baby, changing what should be brown hair into gold. Gothel, an old woman who had been using the golden flower for many years to keep her youthful and beautiful, stole into the baby's room. She found out that cutting the baby's hair would kill the magic in it. With little choice left to her, she stole Rapunzel and locked her away in a tower for 18 years. Rapunzel never knew about her true heritage, only knowing Gothel as her mother. Yet, every year on her birthday, in the distance she could see hundreds of lanterns floating in the distance, creating a beautiful light show.
It was near her 18th birthday that the story truly began. Rapunzel wanted to see the lights and where they came from, but Gothel refused, saying that the world was just too dangerous and cruel for her to leave the tower. She was understandably depressed by that news. Some time after Gothel leaving, a strange man entered the tower! And what should a young lady do when that happened? Well, Rapunzel grabbed a frying pan and KNOCKED HIM OUT AW YEAH!!! Then she hid him in the closet and had a mini freak-out about it.
That was about when Gothel returned to apologize for snapping, and Rapunzel pretty much lied about wanting paints on her birthday instead of seeing the lights. When Gothel left for the day for real, she let out the man and tied him to a chair with her hair. It pays to have long hair! Rapunzel interrogated the man named Flynn Rider, and knocked him out a few more times while breaking his "smolder," whatever that was (hehehehehe). She made him a deal. If he escorted her to see the lights, she would give him the tiarawhich he stole back. Flynn had no choice but to agree!
Of course, since it was her first time out in the world, she had some major mood-swinging, feeling guilty about leaving her mother like that. Flynn tried to convince her to go back and give him the tiara, but she was determined to see those lights for her birthday!!! So, what did Flynn do? He took her to a bar. Full of huge, nasty thugs. It kind of backfired, though, since they all ganged up on him for the reward money. Rapunzel managed to save him by being all like DON'T YOU GUYS HAVE A DREAM? And then cue the musical number while these bloodthirsty dudes revealed their...harmless dreams and befriended the sheltered princess. They helped the two escape from getting caught by thepo po fuzz Royal Guards, mostly wanting Rapunzel to follow her dream.
Then some crazy shenanigans with some water happened, resulting in them almost drowning, but then Rapunzel remembered that HEY, her hair GLOWED so they could see in the darkness of a fast filling cave, saving them from drowning. Well, it turned out that Flynn did something and he got his hand cut. She healed his hand and told him to not freak out about it. In return, he told her that his real name was Eugene Fitzherbert. Flynn Rider was just an alias based off of a famous thief.
While Eugene went off to do something, Rapunzel was surprised to see a wild Gothel appear before her! She planted a seed of doubt that Eugene would stay with her after giving back the tiara, but Rapunzel was determined. Gothel told her that if she so trusted Eugene to keep his word even with it back in his possession, then she should give it back, and gave Rapunzel the tiara. She hid the tiara when Eugene got back, not wanting to risk him leaving her.
They were then joined by a horse named Maximus, who was highly intelligent like Pascal, Rapunzel's chameleon friend. She managed to get Eugene and Maximus to get along for the rest of their journey since it was her birthday. Afterwards, they set off to enter the castle town, and Rapunzel was just so excited! This would be about when the mansion took her, whoops.
Abilities/Special Powers: She has the ability to restore youth to the old and heal people with her hair, but you have to be touching it! Also unrevealed until the end of the movie, her tears have the same healing properties.
Third-Person Sample:
Rapunzel was highly excited. Finally, she was going to see the lights! Oh, but there was so much to see and do before nightfall. What should she do first? The girl twirled around, mouth open to ask Eugene and Maximus that very question. Her look of cheer melted into confusion when she saw that she was no longer at the castle, and neither were her two companions. The only one with her was Pascal, and he looked just as confused.
Before the two friends stood a mansion. They had certainly been nowhere near a mansion. It was huge! Spurred by curiosity and a need to find out where her friends had gone, Rapunzel knocked on the big doors. Nobody answered for a long time, so she opened the door, surprised to see that it was unlocked.
"Helloooooo?" she called, her voice echoing a bit in the foyer. The girl frowned when there was no answer. Pascal didn't like this place, and he was making it well-known to Rapunzel by tugging gently at her hair. She ignored him in favor of going completely inside.
"Is anybody home? I'm trying to find a couple friends of mine! Can someone help me find them?" There was still no answer. How rude! "Where is everybody, Pascal?"
The chameleon shrugged and she sighed. Now what?
First-Person Sample:
[Oh God there's a major close-up of Rapunzel's green eyes as she puzzles out this communications device.]
Hello? Hellooooo? Is it broken or something?
[She frowns at it.]
I don't get it! What does the little red blinking light mean?
[The girl turns her head. Hello, blonde hair!]
Pascal, do you know how to work this thing...? ...You don't? I hope the light doesn't mean I broke it. That would make a horrible first impression to whoever lives here, you know?
[Rapunzel is going to fiddle with it, so it cycles through video to voice to text and back to repeat it. After a while, it starts to speed up until someone decides to speak to her and help a girl out.]
